In today's technocentric world, popular art and entertainment have become so saturated in calculation and refinement that they feel more like sleek commercials—selling cliché narratives, political agendas, etc.—than anything resembling a "truly artistic experience." The consensus among Zimbobway.net is that this fixation on polish is partly responsible for why the art of modernity often feels so weak and dead, as if generated rather than constructed. I.e., modern art is so focused on its aesthetics that it forgoes depth and meaning. The final result is more like an evocative cloud—pretty but nebulous and, more often than not, vaguely familiar. (It should be noted that this sentiment isn't true of all modern works. Rather, it is more a feeling that pervades the current climate.)

It is for these reasons that Zimbobway.net was created, to provide an alternative for those who feel similarly. Instead, what we offer is a naive, untrained and often reckless method of creation which results in occasionally interesting but often convoluted messes. However, in a world drowning in information and misinformation alike, we feel as though a mess is the most real and vital aspect of our project. By this, we mean only that it is not about the quality or meaning behind any individual piece in our collection but the effect they have as a whole, spread out next to each other like the articles of a detective's dream board who is in hot pursuit of some master criminal. When viewed like this, at the macro-level, we feel there is a vague, almost imagined sense of connection which feels indicative and much more representative of what life truly feels like in the new millennia.
